Travelling and competing internationally has given Tyler experiences that extend well beyond medals.
He has trained and competed alongside martial artists from around the world, met athletes from different backgrounds and experienced first-hand the friendships and mutual respect that can exist between competitors.
Those experiences are an important part of his development — both as an athlete and as a young person.
Tyler is also beginning to move from simply learning from others to sharing some of his own experiences.
At 13, he delivered his first martial arts seminar to 20 young athletes, sharing techniques and lessons developed through years of training and international competition.
He has also supported Karate Kids Kicking Cancer, using opportunities created through martial arts to help raise awareness and give something back.
For Tyler, success isn't only about what happens when he steps onto the competition floor. It's also about what he can do with the opportunities that come from it.
Tyler's ambitions don't stop with competition.
He has a long-standing ambition to work in the stunt industry, where his martial arts, weapons skills and performance experience could provide a strong foundation for the future.
As part of that journey, he is also developing skills outside traditional martial arts, including high diving, adding another discipline that could eventually contribute to professional stunt performance.
There is a long road ahead, but that's part of what makes Tyler's story exciting.
At 13, he has already experienced more than he once imagined when he first stepped onto a martial arts mat at four years old.
And he's still at the beginning.
